Janta Dal (S) leader Prajwal Revanna’s Bail Plea Rejected

A Special Court on Wednesday denied the bail application of Prajwal Revanna, a suspended Janta Dal (S) leader accused of rape, in relation to the first case registered against him at Holenarasipura police station.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is probing three cases against Prajwal, who is currently in police custody for one of the cases until June 29. Recently, the SIT registered another case based on a complaint from a new victim.

Prajwal was arrested by the SIT at Bengaluru Airport on his arrival from Germany on Thursday, May 30, in the early hours. He was detained in connection with Crime No.107/2024, registered with Holenarasipura Town Police Station. The court had remanded him to custody until June 6.

Prior to the Lok Sabha elections on April 26, videos allegedly showing Prajwal sexually assaulting women went viral. He left India after casting his vote.

Following a letter from the Karnataka State Commission for Women’s chief urging the State government to take action, a special investigation team was formed to investigate the case.

Previously, the police had arrested Prajwal’s father, Holenarasipura MLA H D Revanna, on charges of kidnapping a woman, who was purportedly the complainant, though he was later released on bail. The SIT has challenged this bail order in the High Court. Prajwal’s mother, Bhavani Revanna, was recently granted anticipatory bail in the same kidnapping case by the High Court.

Additionally, Prajwal’s brother, Suraj Revanna, has been arrested in connection with an alleged sexual abuse case involving a man and has been remanded to police custody until July 1.
